OSM2026

Ocean Sciences Meeting 2026, Creating a Current of Community by connecting with colleagues, and advancing the future of ocean science.

The Ocean Sciences Meeting 2026 was the first international location in the meeting’s history, in Glasgow, Scotland. Our team developed the brand and creative strategy to showcase the location, collaboration between our meeting partners, and the ocean sciences community.

The Tartan

The design of the tartan contains the colors from the logos of the three partner societies – TOS, ASLO, and AGU. The deep ocean is represented by the darkest blue, gradually lightening into the photic zone, ringed by the white of breaking waves — a surf that links all the oceans of the world. The green is for the Earth and the red is for the Sun and the ecosystem of which it is the centre. The broader green band has 23 threads, the adjacent blue has 12, and in the large blue centerpiece, the small dark blue has 18 and the broader adjacent blue 72, weaving into the tartan the HMS challenger launch date. Today’s ocean sciences community honors the past while also proactively embracing and advocating for a more inclusive science future.

Once the threads and colors were approved, the tartan was registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans. A digitized version was also created to be used within the brand and creative strategy.

Promotional Video

Through a grant received by VisitBritain, we contracted Cat Eye Productions to create a promotional video that celebrates and profiles the research and innovations particularly in Scotland as way to generate excitement and create attendance interest in OSM26.

The video is AGU’s top performing video on YouTube with more than 19 million views.

The brand and creative strategy are built upon a digitized version of the custom tartan and the shape of the meeting’s logo.
